This is a value ladder versus a 7-band modular veteran, not a third-brand crown. Hooga sells single-chip HG from $149, dual-chip PRO still on 660 plus 850 nm, and quad-chip ULTRA that adds 630 and 810 nm, including a 61-inch 4500 chassis. PlatinumLED sells classic BioMax and BioMax Pro with a 7-band list (480, 630, 660, 810, 830, 850, 1060 nm), 90-degree conical optics, and a 36-inch single-panel ceiling. Criterion rows split. There is no automatic overall winner outside this pairing.

Dual winner. Hooga for sticker, a 61-inch chassis, and a no-restock trial. PlatinumLED for 7-band 1060 nm, a 90-degree flood, and the higher independent flagship peak. Neither brand is treated as a market crown outside this pairing.

Both sell US-warehouse home panels with three-year warranties, 60-day trials, FDA-registered listings, and HSA/FSA checkout on flagged SKUs. Hooga is a three-architecture catalog that stops at 850 nm. PlatinumLED is a 2010 modular line with a 7-band list including 1060 nm, 90-degree optics, and a 36-inch single-panel ceiling. Prices are manufacturer stickers pulled 1 September 2026 from each brand’s products.json. No coupon is invented. Code TOP10 is 6 percent off RLT Home only, and only if you leave this pairing.

At-a-glance verdict: Hooga if the purchase is a $149 to $399 on-ramp, a 61-inch single chassis, four bands without a 7-band sticker, or a 60-day send-back without a 20% restock. PlatinumLED if the purchase is a 7-band list with 1060 nm, a 90-degree flood, Pro modes and app, and the stronger independent flagship spectrometer peak. Sessions with either mix may help a general wellness routine. Neither panel is presented as treating disease.

The brands at a glance

Hooga

The three-architecture value catalog

Hooga HG200 40 LED tabletop red light therapy panel
Hooga HG200, 40 single-chip LEDs, 660 plus 850 nm. Manufacturer CDN photo. Live price $149 on 1 September 2026.

Hooga Health is the Wisconsin value brand. Three families share a 60-degree lens and a three-year warranty. HG is single-chip 660 plus 850 nm from $149. PRO keeps those two wavelengths on dual-chip LEDs from $299. ULTRA is the four-band quad-chip step (630/660/810/850 nm) from $399 through the ULTRA4500 at $3,499. No Hooga panel lists 480 nm, 830 nm, or 1060/1064 nm. Floor stands are extra and not motorized.

PlatinumLED

The 7-band, 90-degree modular veteran

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano, 144 single-chip LEDs. Live price $799 on 1 September 2026.

PlatinumLED has sold panels since 2010. Classic BioMax and BioMax Pro share a 7-band list. Pro adds named modes, pulse, app, and voice. GO ($299), SaunaMAX Pro ($959), and StudioMAX ($1,349) sit around that core. The brand refuses oversized single panels, weights 660 and 850 nm, and uses single-chip diodes. Independent density on 1060 nm is small. That is a design, not a smear of Hooga’s dual-chip and quad-chip lines.

Spectrum and wavelength density: count is not the story

PlatinumLED lists seven wavelengths. Hooga lists two on HG and PRO, four on ULTRA. Count is the brochure. Density is the share of diodes, and therefore output, in each band. A seven-wavelength panel that pours most energy into 660 and 850 nm behaves like a narrower panel with extra labels. A two-band 50/50 panel is honest about that bet. A quad-chip panel splits each LED four ways.

Hooga: two bands on HG and PRO, four on ULTRA, no 1064 nm

HG and PRO are 660 nm red plus 850 nm near-infrared. PRO dual-chip LEDs put both bands in the same lens at a 1:1 chip split. HG uses separate single-chip diodes. Hooga does not publish a per-band energy table for HG. Treat HG as a two-band panel, not a hidden seven-band mix. ULTRA adds 630 nm and 810 nm. Quad-chip LEDs put all four bands in one package, so each wavelength is roughly a quarter of that diode’s output. ULTRA still does not list 480 nm, 830 nm, or 1064 nm.

Hooga ULTRA1500 four-band quad-chip red light therapy panel
Hooga ULTRA1500, 300 quad-chip LEDs, 630/660/810/850 nm, 39.5 x 8.6 in. Live price $1,399 on 1 September 2026. Light Therapy Insiders measured about 104 mW/cm² peak and 81.7 average at 6 inches.

HG or PRO is the 660 plus 850 on-ramp. ULTRA is the four-band step. Neither family is a 7-band panel.

PlatinumLED: seven bands, weighted to 660 and 850 nm, 1060 nm on the list

BioMax and BioMax Pro list 480, 630, 660, 810, 830, 850, and 1060 nm. That is 1060 nm, not 1064 nm. PlatinumLED is explicit: peak absorption at 660 and 850 nm. It has not posted a public BioMax Pro density table this page can reprint. Light Therapy Insiders on classic BioMax: roughly 2% 480 / 9% 630 / 39% 660 / 5% 810 / 5% 830 / 36% 850 / 4% 1060. About 75 percent of measured energy is 660 plus 850. Notes on BioMax Pro Ultra put roughly 80 percent there, with 1060 a faint trace. Classic BioMax dims R+ and NIR+ separately and can switch off 480 nm. Pro adds per-wavelength control. The 7-band listing still matters here because Hooga lists none of 480, 830, or 1060/1064 nm.

PlatinumLED BioMax 900 classic 7-band red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax 900, 300 single-chip LEDs, 36 x 12 in. Live price $1,299 on 1 September 2026. Light Therapy Insiders measured about 113 mW/cm² peak and 90.3 average at 6 inches.

Spectrum edge: PlatinumLED wins range because 480, 630, 810, 830, and 1060 nm are on the list. Hooga wins the two-band and four-band stickers. Density still matters more than count. Independent BioMax energy is mostly 660 plus 850. ULTRA splits four ways.

Power and Irradiance: Measured by Independent Third Parties

Two measurement families show up around both brands. They are not interchangeable. This section compares spectrometer peaks to spectrometer peaks, and averages to averages. It does not park a solar-meter claim next to a Hopoo Color reading.

Hooga. Brand-stated 6-inch figures often sit in a solar-meter class (ULTRA360 132 mW/cm² claimed, ULTRA1500 165). Light Therapy Insiders on ULTRA360: about 74 mW/cm², roughly half the claim. ULTRA1500 LTI: peak about 104 and average about 81.7 at 6 inches. Those independent figures are what this page uses.

PlatinumLED. Older claimed numbers, including about 185 mW/cm² at 6 inches on BioMax 900, sit in the solar-meter era. LTI on BioMax 900: peak about 113, average about 90.3 at 6 inches; about 75 at 12 inches. BioMax 450 LTI: peak about 96, average about 72. Notes on BioMax Pro Ultra: peak about 120, average about 101. The brand now publishes LightLab charts, often in joules. This page does not convert those joules into LTI milliwatts.

Peak to peak on the tall comparable: about 120 versus 104. Average to average: about 101 versus 81.7. Tabletop class is closer: ULTRA360 LTI about 74 versus BioMax 450 average about 72 (peak 96). Six-inch spectrometer figures are a lab comparison, not a face-use recipe.

Never mix solar-meter claims with spectrometer peaks, 6 inches with 12 to 24 inches, or a peak with a 9-spot average. Useful 2026 picture, peak to peak: PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra about 120 versus Hooga ULTRA1500 104, both independent spectrometer figures with method attached.

Chips: dual-chip and quad-chip are a fact, not a smear

Hooga HG uses single-chip diodes. PRO uses dual-chip 660/850 LEDs. ULTRA uses quad-chip LEDs (630, 660, 810, 850 nm). PlatinumLED uses single-chip diodes and argues against dual-chip in public. A single-chip diode puts its wattage into one peak. Dual-chip and quad-chip split that wattage across two or four peaks, which can even out surface coverage and reduce per-band depth. This page does not treat dual-chip as a defect. It is Hooga’s stated PRO and ULTRA architecture.

Hooga PRO300 dual-chip red light therapy panel
Hooga PRO300, 60 dual-chip LEDs, 660 plus 850 nm, 12.7 x 8.6 in. Live price $299 on 1 September 2026. Tabletop stand included.

Hooga lists 50,000-hour LEDs. PlatinumLED lists 100,000 hours. Neither figure is a field-failure study here. EMF claims are 0.0 µT at 6 inches (Hooga) and 0.0 µT at 4 inches (PlatinumLED). Independent testers have sometimes read above a 0.0 claim. Treat EMF as a measurement, not a slogan.

Beam angle: 60 degrees versus 90 degrees

Hooga specifies 60 degrees. PlatinumLED and Light Therapy Insiders describe conical 90-degree optics on BioMax-class panels. A narrower beam concentrates output on a smaller patch. A wider beam lights a larger patch with faster off-axis fall-off. Neither angle is a medical class. Stacking two panels still increases coverage area, not the milliwatts on one square centimeter of skin.

Coverage: 61-inch chassis versus 36-inch stacks

Two panels increase the lit rectangle. They do not raise irradiance on a given spot. Hooga 1500-class panels are about 8.6 inches wide, too narrow for a torso. The full-body single chassis is the 4500 class: ULTRA4500 61 x 16 in at $3,499, PRO4500 61.2 x 15.7 in at $3,099, plus a $299 vertical stand ($3,798 / $3,398). The stand is not motorized.

Hooga ULTRA4500 900 LED panel on a vertical floor stand
Hooga ULTRA4500, 900 quad-chip LEDs, 61 x 16 in, on the vertical stand. Live panel price $3,499. Vertical stand $299 extra. Not motorized.

PlatinumLED’s tallest single panel is about 36 x 12 inches (BioMax 900 $1,299; Pro Ultra $1,599). Head-to-toe wants a second panel and a stand. Midi + Ultra + $379 = $2,877. Ultra + Ultra + $379 = $3,477, or $3,967 with the $869 motorized XL. That stack can undercut a Hooga 4500 total without becoming a 61-inch rectangle.

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Midi plus Ultra stacked combination
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Midi + Ultra live combo, $2,498. Stand extra ($379 horizontal or $869 XL motorized). Manufacturer CDN photo.

ULTRA1500 at $1,399 is 39.5 x 8.6 in, a strip not a torso panel. Pro Ultra at $1,599 is shorter and 12 inches wide. One 61-inch rectangle is Hooga 4500 money. Two 12-inch 7-band panels are PlatinumLED stack money.

Modes, apps, and privacy

Hooga HG is a timer panel. PRO adds flicker-free drivers. ULTRA adds a touchscreen, brightness, pulse 1 to 9,999 Hz, and panel sync. No named condition presets, and no app. BioMax Pro has five Smart Therapy Modes, pulse 0 to 9,999 Hz, per-wavelength control, app, and voice. Classic BioMax is R+ / NIR+ dimming. Named Pro modes are PlatinumLED’s row. No-app simplicity is Hooga’s row. Pulse is not a medical protocol here.

What is in the box, and what is not

Hooga HG200, HG300, PRO, and ULTRA include a tabletop stand and list goggles in the box. Floor stands are extra: compact $199, vertical $299, horizontal $299. No motorized SKU. PlatinumLED includes a door hook and optional-to-wear eye protection. Floor stands $119 to $869, final sale. A panel photo on a stand is not proof the stand is in the panel SKU.

User reviews: Trustpilot, pulled 1 September 2026

This row uses independent public Trustpilot listings, not manufacturer on-site star widgets. Scores, counts, and the pull date are named. Neither sample is a rounding error. Direct Trustpilot HTML fetch from this writing environment returned a challenge or HTTP 500, so score and count were confirmed from the live Trustpilot result index for those URLs on 1 September 2026. Hooga does not automatically lose because PlatinumLED has more reviews. PlatinumLED does not automatically win on vibes.

Hooga · Trustpilot

4.3 / 5

54 reviews · trustpilot.com/review/hoogahealth.com · indexed 1 September 2026

Fifty-four reviews is a usable sample, smaller than PlatinumLED’s. Themes include value and support, plus complaints about controllers, packaging, and return shipping. This page does not mix hoogahealth.com widgets with Trustpilot.

PlatinumLED · Trustpilot

4.1 / 5

133 reviews · trustpilot.com/review/platinumtherapylights.com · indexed 1 September 2026

One hundred thirty-three reviews is the larger sample. Themes include quality praise plus complaints about price, stands, and exchanges. This page does not mix manufacturer widgets with Trustpilot.

Winner for user-reviews score: Hooga, 4.3 from 54 versus 4.1 from 133, same independent platform, same pull date. Winner for sample size: PlatinumLED. The score row is awarded on the live figure, not on brand age. A 4.3 from 54 is not a thin Helio-style n=8 listing. It is still a smaller n than 133, which is why sample size is a separate badge.

Trial, warranty, and shipping friction

Hooga: 3-year warranty. 60-day trial. No restocking fee is stated on the policy language this page used. For US returns a prepaid label is offered, and its cost is deducted from the refund. The customer still pays to send the panel back. Open-box items are non-refundable. Standard US shipping is free, typically 2 to 6 business days.

PlatinumLED: 3-year warranty. 60-day panel trial with 20% restocking, customer-paid return shipping, original packaging, authorization, received by day 60. A signed delivery is treated as used, so a $1,599 Ultra return is a $320 restock plus freight. Stands are final sale. Free shipping is listed for the US, UK, and Canada. Some regions pay extra.

Hooga wins the restocking-fee row. PlatinumLED wins nothing on that line. Both still make the buyer fund the return. Warranty length is a draw at three years. Hooga’s 50,000-hour LED claim versus PlatinumLED’s 100,000-hour claim is a spec-sheet difference, not a trial term.

FDA-registered, not cleared

Both catalogs are FDA-registered listings for home wellness panels. Neither is FDA-cleared, and neither is FDA-approved as a treatment for disease. Hooga states it is made in an FDA-registered facility and markets panels as general wellness. PlatinumLED uses clinical-grade and FDA Class II wording. No home red light panel holds a “medical-grade” performance classification. Registration is a listing. That is the same class for both brands on this page.

Wellness copy may help some readers plan a routine. It is not a disease claim here. HSA/FSA eligibility is flagged on both catalogs via checkout partners. Confirm the current SKU at payment. This page does not invent a medical indication for HG, ULTRA, BioMax, or BioMax Pro.

Who should choose Hooga?

A dual-winner use case

Buyers who already want this design

  • Want a $149 to $399 on-ramp (HG200, HG300, PRO300, ULTRA360) and will accept two or four wavelengths that stop at 850 nm.
  • Want four bands (630/660/810/850) on ULTRA without paying a BioMax Pro sticker.
  • Want one 61-inch chassis (PRO4500 $3,099 or ULTRA4500 $3,499) rather than two 36-inch panels.
  • Want a tabletop stand in the box on HG200, HG300, PRO, and ULTRA, and are fine buying a $199 to $299 floor stand later.
  • Want a 60-day trial with no restocking fee stated, and will still pay return freight (prepaid label deducted).
  • Want no companion app, and will run a timer or an ULTRA touchscreen without named condition presets.
  • Want the higher independent Trustpilot score in this pairing (4.3 from 54 reviews as of 1 September 2026).
  • Accept dual-chip PRO and quad-chip ULTRA as even-surface architectures, and accept LTI figures that often land near half of Hooga’s brand-stated irradiance.

Who should choose PlatinumLED?

A dual-winner use case

Buyers who already want this design

  • Want a 7-band list that includes 480 nm and 1060 nm, even after reading that independent density on 1060 nm is a small slice.
  • Prefer single-chip diodes and a 90-degree flood, and accept PlatinumLED’s 660/850 weighting as the design.
  • Want BioMax Pro named modes, per-wavelength control, optional pulse, app, and voice.
  • Want classic BioMax independent R+ / NIR+ dimming without presets, at a lower sticker than the matching Pro size (BioMax 900 $1,299 versus Pro Ultra $1,599).
  • Prefer a modular stack of 19-inch and 36-inch panels, including zero-gap Pro frames, and will budget $379 to $869 for a rack.
  • Want the higher independent spectrometer peak in this pairing (Pro Ultra ~120 mW/cm² versus ULTRA1500 LTI peak 104).
  • Want the larger independent Trustpilot sample (4.1 from 133 reviews versus 4.3 from 54).
  • Want a motorized XL stand option at $869, and are fine paying return freight plus a 20% restock if the 60-day trial ends in a send-back.

If you are still comparing a third catalog

This page is Hooga versus PlatinumLED. It does not auto-crown a third brand. Buyers who want another 1064 nm catalog, a published-density 810 nm specialist, or the 16-brand table should use the links below. Code TOP10 is 6 percent off RLT Home live prices only, nearest dollar. It is never a Hooga or PlatinumLED offer. Live RLT Home stickers on 1 September 2026: RLT Home Mini $495 (TOP10 $465), RLT Home Compact $995 ($935), RLT Home Max $1,595 ($1,499), RLT Home Ultra $2,595 ($2,439), RLT Home Elite $4,495 ($4,225).

Live Track B neighbours for this Hooga / PlatinumLED cluster: PlatinumLED vs Mito (28 Sep 2026), Hooga vs Mito (28 Sep 2026), BON CHARGE vs Hooga (25 Sep 2026), Bestqool vs Hooga (26 Sep 2026), and GembaRed vs Hooga (27 Sep 2026). Both brand reviews are live: Hooga review and PlatinumLED review. Do not href unpublished Hooga or PlatinumLED Track B siblings (for example platinumled-vs-bon-charge, joovv-vs-hooga, or today’s sibling platinumled-vs-joovv until that slug returns 200). Always use the long PlatinumLED Track A slug already on the next-comparison cards (/platinumled-vs-rlt-home-red-light-therapy-comparison/), not the short 301 slug.

The verdict: dual winners

This pairing does not crown one catalog for every buyer. Hooga takes the sticker fight, the 61-inch chassis, the no-restock trial language, and the higher Trustpilot score. PlatinumLED takes the 7-band 1060 nm list, the 90-degree flood, Pro modes, the higher independent flagship peak, and the larger review sample. That is a dual winner, not a runner-up speech, and not an automatic third-brand crown.

🏆 Dual winner, Hooga

For sticker, a 61-inch chassis, and a no-restock trial

Choose Hooga if you want HG from $149, four-band ULTRA from $399, or one 61-inch PRO4500 / ULTRA4500 rectangle. Budget a $199 to $299 floor stand. Accept two or four wavelengths that stop at 850 nm, dual-chip or quad-chip on PRO and ULTRA, and LTI figures near half of some brand claims. Trustpilot is 4.3 from 54 reviews as of 1 September 2026. Return freight still comes out of the refund.

🏆 Dual winner, PlatinumLED

For 7-band 1060 nm and a 90-degree flood

Choose PlatinumLED if you want a 7-band single-chip panel with 1060 nm on the list, 90-degree optics, BioMax Pro modes and app, and the stronger independent peak in this pairing. Budget a stand ($119 to $869) and treat a single Ultra as a 36-inch light, not a 61-inch lie-under. Budget 20% plus freight if you might return it. Independent density on 1060 nm is small. That does not erase the 7-band listing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hooga have 1064 nm or 1060 nm?

No. Every live Hooga panel stops at 850 nm. ULTRA adds 630 and 810 nm. HG and PRO are 660 plus 850 only. There is no 480 nm blue, no 830 nm, and no 1060/1064 nm deep infrared on HG, PRO, or ULTRA.

Does PlatinumLED have 1064 nm?

No. PlatinumLED lists 1060 nm, not 1064 nm. LTI puts 1060 nm around 4% on classic BioMax and a faint trace on Pro Ultra. Hooga lists neither band.

Which brand wins this page?

Both, by use case. Hooga wins sticker, the 61-inch chassis, Trustpilot score, and no restock. PlatinumLED wins the 7-band list, 90-degree beam, independent flagship peak, and sample size. No third brand is auto-crowned.

Can Hooga’s 165 mW/cm² ULTRA1500 claim be compared with PlatinumLED’s older 185 mW/cm² BioMax 900 claim?

No. Both sit in a solar-meter or unspecified-method class. Spectrometer figures used here are ULTRA1500 peak 104 versus BioMax 900 peak 113 and Pro Ultra peak about 120, all at 6 inches.

Is the Hooga floor stand motorized?

No. Live JSON stands are a $199 compact 1500/750 stand, a $299 vertical, a $299 horizontal, and a $99 extra tabletop. PlatinumLED’s XL motorized horizontal stand is $869 and is final sale. That motorized option is PlatinumLED’s row.

Do either brand’s Trustpilot scores include manufacturer website stars?

No. This page uses trustpilot.com/review/hoogahealth.com (4.3 / 5 from 54) and trustpilot.com/review/platinumtherapylights.com (4.1 / 5 from 133), indexed 1 September 2026. On-site widgets are a different dataset and are not mixed in.

Is there a discount code for Hooga or PlatinumLED on this page?

No. No code is invented for either catalog. TOP10 is 6% off current RLT Home live prices only, nearest dollar, and only if you leave this pairing for a vs-RLT Home page or the 16-brand ranking.

Prices pulled 1 September 2026 from hoogahealth.com/products.json and platinumtherapylights.com/products.json. Trustpilot English listings checked the same day (Hooga 4.3 / 54; PlatinumLED 4.1 / 133). Direct Trustpilot HTML fetch returned a challenge or HTTP 500 from this environment, so score and count were confirmed from the live Trustpilot result index for those URLs. Product photos and logos are manufacturer CDN files. Red Light Therapy Top 10 may earn a commission from qualifying purchases. That does not change the specs or live prices cited here.
