This is a panel comparison between two catalogs, not a hair-cap contest and not a third-brand crown. iRestore is best known for FDA-cleared laser hair-growth helmets. The Apex LED body panels are a later, separate product: two 36 x 12-inch half-body units with eight listed bands, a 10-year warranty, and a brand irradiance number from an unnamed instrument. PlatinumLED is a panel-first line: Classic BioMax and BioMax Pro, a 7-band mix that includes 1060 nm, 90-degree flood optics, and independent Light Therapy Insiders spectrometer figures. Criterion rows split. There is no automatic RLT Home win on this page.

Dual winner. iRestore Apex for the 10-year warranty, eight listed bands, door mount, and no restocking on panel returns. PlatinumLED for the LTI spectrometer trail, 90-degree flood, published 7-band 1060 nm mix, and Classic versus Pro kits. Neither brand is treated as a market crown outside this pairing. RLT Home appears only in the later funnel.

iRestore (irestorelaser.com) is Freedom Laser Therapy’s consumer brand. Hair helmets made the name. Apex is the body-panel line: Apex Pro 1500 (300 LEDs) and Apex Elite 2160 (432 LEDs), both 36 x 12 x 3 inches, sold standalone or in two-panel and four-panel bundles. PlatinumLED Therapy Lights (platinumtherapylights.com) has sold BioMax panels since the early 2010s. The live 1 September 2026 catalog is Classic BioMax 300, 450, 600, and 900 plus BioMax Pro Nano, Midi, Grande, and Ultra. This page stays on panels. Helmet diode counts never enter an Apex or BioMax irradiance row.

Both Apex panels and every BioMax panel in this table are FDA-registered home LED devices. That is a listing, not FDA clearance. iRestore’s homepage “FDA-Cleared” language refers to the hair-growth lasers, a different device class. PlatinumLED markets “clinical-grade” and “FDA Class II Medical Device” wording. Registration is still a listing. Prices below were pulled 1 September 2026 from each brand’s products.json. No coupon is invented for either catalog. Code TOP10 is 6 percent off RLT Home only and appears only in the later funnel.

At-a-glance verdict: Dual winner by buyer type. PlatinumLED is the stronger pick for a measured flood panel, a published 7-band mix that includes 1060 nm, and a Classic versus Pro ladder that starts at $659. iRestore Apex is the stronger pick for a 10-year panel warranty, eight listed bands including 590 nm amber and 940 nm plus 1060 nm, a door mount in the box, and no restocking fee on returned Apex panels.

The brands at a glance

iRestore

A hair-led brand that also sells Apex body panels

iRestore Apex Elite 2160 half-body LED red light therapy panel
iRestore Apex Elite 2160, the 432-LED, 36 x 12-inch half-body panel. Door mount is in the box. Floor, universal, and motorized stands are sold separately.

iRestore built its name on FDA-cleared laser hair-growth helmets. Apex Pro 1500 (300 LEDs) and Apex Elite 2160 (432 LEDs) share one 36 x 12 x 3-inch chassis, eight listed wavelengths, a 30-degree beam, six smart modes, a touchscreen, a magnetic remote, and an app. Elite 2160 adds individual wavelength control. Brand irradiance is greater than 200 mW/cm² at about 6 inches, instrument unnamed. One panel is half body. Full body is a two-panel bundle ($2,997 Pro, $4,797 Elite). Studio four-panel kits are $6,095 and $9,695. Door mount is included. Floor stand is $159 extra on the live Shopify record.

PlatinumLED

A panel-first line with Classic and Pro kits

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano, the 144-LED entry in the Pro line. Live 1 September 2026 sticker $799.

PlatinumLED Therapy Lights launched in the early 2010s and still sells two parallel families. Classic BioMax (9th gen) runs 100 to 300 LEDs from $659 to $1,299. BioMax Pro runs 144 to 432 LEDs from $799 to $1,599, with five named Smart Therapy Modes, app control, and voice. Both families list the same seven bands, including 1060 nm. The brand publishes 90-degree conical optics and links LightLab charts. Independent Light Therapy Insiders spectrometer work on BioMax 900 and BioMax Pro Ultra is the measurement trail used on this page. Panels ship with hanging hardware. Stands are extra, including the XL motorized horizontal stand at $869.

Hair helmets are a different product class

iRestore still sells FDA-cleared hair helmets. They are not Apex panels and do not belong in a panel irradiance table. They are the genuine reason some buyers pick iRestore over a panel-only brand. PlatinumLED does not sell a scalp helmet. Mixing a helmet clearance with an Apex panel listing is the fastest way to misread this comparison.

iRestore Elite FDA-cleared hair growth helmet, a different product class from Apex body panels
iRestore Elite hair helmet (500 diodes). This is a scalp device, not a body panel. Its output is not used in any Apex spec row below. It is not the vs hero.

Live 1 September 2026, the hair collection still advertises Professional and Elite helmets alongside Apex. Helmets use a 12-month money-back structure, not the Apex 60-day panel trial. Helmets are the product that carries FDA clearance for hair growth. Apex panels are FDA-registered / 510(k)-exempt. Body-coverage buyers should ignore helmet diode counts when they read the tables that follow.

Edge: iRestore for a dedicated FDA-cleared hair helmet. PlatinumLED if the shopping list is panels only. Helmet numbers stay out of the panel tables.

Spectrum and wavelength density: eight listed bands versus seven published shares

Apex lists eight wavelengths. BioMax lists seven. Count is not the story if LED share is unpublished. Density matters more than a longer list. iRestore has not published Apex wavelength allocation. PlatinumLED has a published Classic mix from Light Therapy Insiders, and the brand itself states that BioMax output is weighted toward 660 nm and 850 nm.

iRestore Apex: eight listed bands, unpublished mix

Both Apex Pro 1500 and Apex Elite 2160 list the same eight wavelengths:

Wavelength Role (as commonly discussed) Apex allocation
590 nm (amber)Surface skin, tone-oriented sessionsNot published
630 nm (red)Surface skin, collagenNot published
660 nm (red)Surface skin, collagen, hairNot published
810 nm (near infrared)Muscle, joint, brain-oriented sessionsNot published
830 nm (near infrared)Muscle, joint, brain-oriented sessionsNot published
850 nm (near infrared)RecoveryNot published
940 nm (near infrared)Deeper NIR, less common on home panelsNot published
1060 nm (deep NIR)Deep tissue, jointsNot published

The extra names versus BioMax are 590 nm amber and 940 nm. Apex does not list 480 nm blue as a working band. The live Apex product page markets “no blue light” while a skin-zone graphic also flashes 480 nm. This page treats the eight named bands from the brand pack and the product spec (590 through 1060) as the working list, and does not award a blue-light row to Apex. Because LED share is unpublished, eight names is a list, not a density claim. A panel can list 1060 nm and still put most of its energy in 660 and 850. That is why this row is “listed bands,” not “more 1060 nm output.”

PlatinumLED BioMax: seven bands, published mix, 1060 nm on the list

Classic BioMax and BioMax Pro list 480, 630, 660, 810, 830, 850, and 1060 nm. Light Therapy Insiders measured a Classic BioMax mix of about 2% 480 / 9% 630 / 39% 660 / 5% 810 / 5% 830 / 36% 850 / 4% 1060. The brand openly weights output toward 660 nm and 850 nm and argues that those are the peak absorption points. That is a stated design philosophy, not a hidden omission. Independent 1060 nm share on that Classic test is real and small (about 4%). 810 nm and 830 nm are also modest. Density, not the seven-name count, is the honest read.

PlatinumLED BioMax 900 classic red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax 900, the 300-LED, 36 x 12-inch Classic. Same outer size as both Apex panels. Live sticker $1,299.

Apex counters with two bands BioMax does not list: 590 nm amber and 940 nm. Those names matter for buyers who specifically want amber skin sessions or a 940 nm NIR slice. They do not, on published evidence, prove Apex delivers more energy at 1060 nm than BioMax. BioMax counters with a published 7-band mix, a 480 nm blue slice, and independent confirmation that 1060 nm is present even if it is not the largest slice.

Edge: iRestore for the longer named list (590, 940, 1060) if those extra names are the shopping reason. PlatinumLED for a published 7-band mix that includes 1060 nm with independent share data. Density beats count. This page does not invent an Apex 1060 nm percentage.

Power and Irradiance: Measured by Independent Third Parties

Irradiance rows only match when the instrument class matches. Spectrometer peak-to-peak or average-to-average is the rule on this site. A brand number from an unnamed meter is not dropped into the same cell as a Light Therapy Insiders spectrometer figure.

PlatinumLED: Light Therapy Insiders spectrometer

Light Therapy Insiders measured BioMax 900 at a 6-inch peak of 113 mW/cm² and an average of 90.3 mW/cm², with about 75 mW/cm² at 12 inches. The same lab’s BioMax Pro Ultra work is reported at roughly peak 120 / average 101 mW/cm² at 6 inches (medium confidence in the brand pack). PlatinumLED also links LightLab accredited intensity charts and historically published solar-meter headlines. Those solar-meter headlines are not used as the comparison number here. The LTI spectrometer figures are.

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra 432 LED red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra, 432 LEDs in a 36 x 12-inch chassis. Live sticker $1,599. LTI spectrometer trail is the power row for this brand.

iRestore Apex: unnamed-instrument brand number

iRestore states Apex delivers more than 200 mW/cm² at approximately 6 inches (15 cm). The instrument is not named. This page records that claim as a brand figure and does not place it in the spectrometer row beside LTI. A solar meter, an unspecified probe, or a peak-only reading can print a much higher number than a spectrometer average across the face of the panel. Until Apex publishes a named independent spectrometer report, the honest statement is: brand number, unnamed instrument, not comparable to LTI 90 to 120 mW/cm².

The live Apex product page also uses “ETL Medical Grade Certified,” “ZERO EMF at recommended distance,” and “Class II Medical Device” badges next to the irradiance claim. Those badges are marketing chrome around a home LED panel. They do not convert the unnamed 200-plus figure into a spectrometer result.

Edge: PlatinumLED for independent spectrometer data. iRestore’s >200 mW/cm² stays in a separate, unnamed-instrument note. This page does not rank Apex as “more powerful” on that number.

LED chips: published single-chip versus unpublished 5W

PlatinumLED publishes single-chip LEDs and argues against dual-chip designs. That is a fact about BioMax, not a smear of anyone else. Single-chip sends each diode’s power into one peak. Dual-chip splits one package across two wavelengths, which can even out a surface field and also thins the power in each peak. This pairing does not use dual-chip as an insult. Apex lists 5W LEDs and does not publish single versus dual. This page does not invent an Apex chip architecture.

LED density on the shared 36 x 12-inch chassis is a cleaner comparison than chip marketing. Both Apex Pro 1500 and BioMax 900 pack 300 LEDs into about 432 square inches (about 0.69 LEDs per square inch). Both Apex Elite 2160 and BioMax Pro Ultra pack 432 LEDs into the same footprint (1.00 LED per square inch). Density at that size is a tie. Price at that density is not: Elite 2160 is $2,199, Pro Ultra is $1,599.

Edge: Tie on 36 x 12-inch LED density when matching 300-to-300 and 432-to-432. PlatinumLED for a published single-chip spec. Apex chip type remains unpublished.

Beam angle: 30-degree Apex versus 90-degree BioMax

Apex specifies a 30-degree beam. PlatinumLED specifies 90-degree conical optics on BioMax, and Light Therapy Insiders tested BioMax 900 as a 90-degree flood. Those are different tools. A 30-degree beam keeps more energy in a tighter column, which may help a buyer who stands close and wants a hotter center. A 90-degree flood spreads energy across a wider body area at a given distance, which may help a buyer who wants shoulders, hips, and thighs in one stance without shuffling.

Neither angle is a defect. Calling 90-degree “washed out” or 30-degree “too narrow” would be an invented weakness. The choice is use case. Apex’s 30-degree spec lines up with a half-body panel used at about 6 inches. BioMax’s 90-degree spec lines up with a modular flood wall. Buyers who want both a tight beam and a named spectrometer report will not find that combo in this pairing.

Edge: iRestore for a 30-degree focused spec. PlatinumLED for a 90-degree flood with an independent beam-angle test on BioMax 900.

Coverage: two half-body catalogs, no 64-inch chassis

Neither brand sells a 64-inch or 65-inch single panel. Apex is 36 inches tall. BioMax’s largest single panel is also 36 inches tall. Full-body coverage on both sides means stacking two panels, then paying for a stand that holds them. Apex Full Body bundles are two panels on a universal stand ($2,997 Pro, $4,797 Elite). Apex Studio bundles are four panels on a motorized stand ($6,095 Pro, $9,695 Elite). PlatinumLED’s matching path is two BioMax Pro Ultras plus the XL motorized stand ($1,599 + $1,599 + $869 = $4,067) or two BioMax 900s plus that stand ($1,299 + $1,299 + $869 = $3,467).

Two iRestore Apex Pro 1500 half-body LED panels stacked for fuller coverage
Two Apex Pro 1500 panels. Full-body coverage on this catalog is a bundle, not a single 64-inch chassis.
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano and Grande two-panel combination
PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Nano plus Grande combination. Modular coverage is the brand’s stated alternative to a large single panel.

Connecting extra panels increases coverage area. It does not raise the irradiance on any one patch of skin. A four-panel studio is a wider wall, not a stronger dose at a point. Both brands are honest enough to sell those kits as coverage, not as “four times the power on your knee.”

Edge: Tie on single-panel height (both 36 in). PlatinumLED for more size steps under 36 inches (19 x 9 Nano/300 through 36 x 12 Ultra/900). iRestore for a simpler two-SKU Apex chooser if the buyer already wants 36 x 12.

Modes, apps, and control

Apex ships six smart modes, an on-panel touchscreen, a magnetic remote, dimming 0-100%, and pulsing 0-40 Hz. Apex Elite 2160 adds precise individual wavelength control. Apex Pro 1500 uses group control. Both talk to a mobile app over Bluetooth.

BioMax Pro ships five named Smart Therapy Modes (Deep Tissue, Anti-Aging, Sleep Support, Skin Repair and Recovery, Workout), pulse control, custom protocols, a remote, a touch interface, a companion app, and voice recognition. Classic BioMax is simpler: independent R+ (red) and NIR+ dimming, no named preset list.

Both Pro-class catalogs are app-connected. Privacy-minded buyers who want a panel that stays offline will not find that design in this pairing. Individual wavelength control on Apex Elite 2160 is a real hardware extra versus Classic BioMax. BioMax Pro also offers per-wavelength style control through its app and protocols. This page does not invent a “BioMax cannot isolate bands” weakness.

Edge: iRestore Apex Elite 2160 for on-panel individual wavelength control. PlatinumLED BioMax Pro for named Smart Therapy Modes plus voice. Classic BioMax if the buyer wants simple R+ / NIR+ dimming and no app.

Door mount in the Apex box is a genuine convenience. It is not a floor stand. A buyer who wants the panel off the door still pays $159 to $899 on the iRestore stand SKU, or $79 to $869 on the PlatinumLED stand SKU. User reviews: independent Trustpilot, 1 September 2026

This row uses public Trustpilot listings only. Manufacturer on-site star widgets are not mixed in. Scores, counts, and the pull date are stated. The row is awarded on score plus sample size, not on vibe.

iRestore · Trustpilot

3.6 / 5

1,092 reviews · trustpilot.com/review/irestorelaser.com · pulled 1 Sep 2026

The sample is large. It is also mostly hair-device and mask buyers, because that is still the brand’s public identity. Common themes in the public summary: build and service praise on one side, shipping friction, restocking complaints, and mixed results on the other. Restocking complaints on Trustpilot often describe helmet and mask orders. Apex panel returns are the SKU class that the brand states carries no restocking fee. This page does not flatten those two policies into one insult.

PlatinumLED · Trustpilot

4.1 / 5

133 reviews · trustpilot.com/review/platinumtherapylights.com · pulled 1 Sep 2026

The sample is smaller and is a panel-buyer sample. 133 reviews is not a thin listing. Public summary themes: sleep, energy, and pain-relief praise, with complaints about price, stands, and some support or refund friction. The 20 percent restocking fee is a recurring return-policy note, not an invented weakness.

PlatinumLED wins the row on score (4.1 versus 3.6) with an adequate sample (133). iRestore’s 1,092-review sample is larger, which is a real data strength, and the score is still lower. This page does not award iRestore the reviews row on sample size alone. It also does not pretend PlatinumLED’s 133 reviews match iRestore’s 1,092 for statistical weight. Score plus adequate sample is the stated rule. PlatinumLED takes the badge.

Edge: PlatinumLED, 4.1 / 5 from 133 versus 3.6 / 5 from 1,092, pulled 1 September 2026 from the independent Trustpilot listings named above.

Trial, returns, and warranty

Both catalogs advertise a 60-day window on panels. The cost of changing one’s mind is not the same.

iRestore: 60 days from delivery on Apex panels, no restocking fee on returned Apex LED panels, customer pays return shipping, RMA required. A 20 percent fee applies only to refused or undeliverable shipments, per the brand pack. The brand markets the 10-year warranty on Apex 1500 and 2160 as three times a typical 3-year term. Hair helmets and Illumina masks are different warranty and trial SKUs (helmets 1-2 years, masks 1 year, helmets on a 12-month money-back structure). Those non-panel terms are not copied onto Apex.

PlatinumLED: 60 days, 20 percent restocking on elective returns, customer pays return shipping, 3-year warranty. On a $1,599 BioMax Pro Ultra, 20 percent is $320. On a $1,299 BioMax 900, 20 percent is $260. That is a real dollar cost, not a talking point.

Ten years versus three years is the clearest ownership gap in this pairing. It is also a promise, not a lab measurement. A 10-year term is still a genuine Apex advantage if the buyer intends to keep one 36-inch panel for a decade. A 3-year term plus a 20 percent restocking fee is the BioMax package as published.

Edge: iRestore Apex for the 10-year warranty and no restocking fee on panel returns. PlatinumLED matches the 60-day window and loses the restocking and warranty rows on published terms.

FDA language: hair-laser clearance is not panel clearance

Every home red light panel in this pairing is FDA-registered. Registration is a listing. It is not FDA clearance, and it is not a “medical-grade” performance class.

iRestore’s homepage “FDA-Cleared” claim is for the hair-growth lasers. Apex PANELS are FDA-registered / 510(k)-exempt, not cleared. The live Apex product page still prints “Class II Medical Device” and “ETL Medical Grade Certified” beside the panel. Those phrases sit on a 510(k)-exempt home LED panel. This page says that split plainly. A buyer who thinks Apex inherited the helmet clearance is reading the brand the way the homepage invites, not the way the device listing works.

PlatinumLED is FDA-registered and markets “clinical-grade,” “medical-grade quality,” and “official FDA Class II Medical Devices.” No home red light panel holds a medical-grade performance classification. The listing is the same style of registration as Apex. The difference is copy, not a clearance PlatinumLED holds and iRestore does not, or the reverse.

Hair-helmet clearance remains a real iRestore fact. It is a different product. It is not a reason to write “FDA-cleared panel” on Apex, and it is not a reason to dock PlatinumLED for lacking a scalp helmet.

Edge: Tie on panel FDA status (both registered, neither cleared). iRestore for FDA-cleared hair helmets as a separate product class. Neither brand wins a “cleared home panel” row, because that row does not exist.

Same sticker, same LED count, same outer size. Apex includes the door mount and a 10-year warranty. BioMax 900 includes the LTI spectrometer trail and 90-degree optics. The “same $1,299” line is a chassis match, not a winner by default. A buyer who hangs the panel on a door and never buys a floor stand spends $1,299 on either SKU and keeps the 10-year term only on Apex. A buyer who wants a named 6-inch spectrometer average spends the same $1,299 on BioMax 900 and accepts a 3-year term.

Same LED count, same outer size, $600 panel-price gap. Apex Elite 2160 is the 10-year, eight-band, individual-control SKU. BioMax Pro Ultra is the measured, 90-degree, $1,599 SKU. Buyers who want both 432 LEDs and a named spectrometer will land on Pro Ultra unless the 10-year term is the non-negotiable. The $600 is not “Apex is padded.” It is the price of the warranty, the extra named bands, and on-panel wavelength isolation, none of which this page treats as fake. It is also not “Pro Ultra is cheap junk.” It is the price of a denser Pro array with a public LTI trail.

Tier 3. Entry and two-panel full-body kits

iRestore PlatinumLED
Smallest panelApex Pro 1500 $1,299 (no smaller Apex)Classic 300 $659 or Pro Nano $799
Two-panel full-body kitApex Pro Full Body $2,997. Apex Elite Full Body $4,7972x BioMax 900 $2,598, or 2x Pro Ultra $3,198, plus stand
Four-panel studioPro Studio $6,095. Elite Studio $9,6952x Ultra + Ultra combinations from $3,098 panels-only, up to $6,146 for 2x Ultra + Ultra

PlatinumLED wins the ladder. There is no $659 or $799 Apex. iRestore wins simplicity: two panel SKUs, named full-body and studio bundles, door mount in every Apex box. A first-time buyer who wants a small tabletop panel cannot buy Apex. They can buy BioMax 300 or Pro Nano.

Who should buy iRestore Apex

iRestore Apex Pro 1500 300 LED half-body red light therapy panel
iRestore Apex Pro 1500, 300 LEDs, 36 x 12 inches, live sticker $1,299. Door mount included.

Apex is the better panel in this pairing when the buyer wants:

  • A 10-year warranty on a home LED panel.
  • Eight listed bands including 590 nm amber, 940 nm, and 1060 nm, and is willing to accept unpublished LED share.
  • A 30-degree beam rather than a 90-degree flood.
  • A door mount in the box and no restocking fee if the Apex panel comes back.
  • Individual wavelength control on Apex Elite 2160.
  • An iRestore hair helmet in the same household, with a clear understanding that the helmet is the FDA-cleared device and Apex is the registered panel.

Apex is a weaker fit when the buyer needs a named independent spectrometer report, a 90-degree flood, a panel under $1,000, or a 64-inch single chassis. Those needs sit with PlatinumLED (first two plus the ladder) or with other catalogs in the ranking (the 64-inch chassis). Red light therapy may help with recovery, skin appearance, and temporary comfort for some users. Apex does not turn those “may help” statements into a cleared medical claim, and this page does not either.

Who should buy PlatinumLED BioMax

PlatinumLED BioMax 300 classic red light therapy panel
PlatinumLED BioMax 300, 100 LEDs, 19 x 9 inches, live sticker $659. The ladder starts here. Apex has no equivalent small panel.

BioMax is the better panel in this pairing when the buyer wants:

  • Independent Light Therapy Insiders spectrometer numbers on a named model.
  • 90-degree flood optics, including an independent beam-angle test on BioMax 900.
  • A published 7-band mix that includes 1060 nm, even with the known 660/850 weighting.
  • Classic versus Pro kits from $659 (Classic 300) to $1,599 (Pro Ultra).
  • A higher Trustpilot score with an adequate panel-buyer sample (4.1 from 133).
  • Modular add-ons over time, including Nano + Grande and Ultra + Ultra kits.

BioMax is a weaker fit when the buyer wants a 10-year warranty, zero restocking on a change of mind, 590 nm amber or 940 nm on the list, or a door mount that is already paid for in the panel SKU. Those are Apex rows. BioMax Pro’s app and voice features are a genuine convenience for buyers who want session tracking. They are also a connectivity choice. This pairing has no offline-only panel.

Where this pairing sits next to RLT Home

RLT Home is not in the winner box. It is the third catalog many buyers open after they notice that both Apex and BioMax stop at 36 inches, both sell stands separately for floor use, and only one of the two (PlatinumLED) publishes a spectrometer trail. Live 1 September 2026 RLT Home stickers, with code TOP10 at 6 percent off RLT Home only: RLT Home Total Spectrum MINI $495 ($465), COMPACT $995 ($935), MAX $1,595 ($1,499), ULTRA $2,595 ($2,439), ELITE $4,495 ($4,225). No iRestore or PlatinumLED code is implied by those numbers.

RLT Home Total Spectrum MAX 360 LED mid-tall red light therapy panel
RLT Home Total Spectrum MAX, the 49-inch mid-tall panel. It is not a contestant in the winner box above. It is the size class neither Apex nor BioMax sells as a single chassis.
RLT Home Total Spectrum ELITE 864 LED flagship red light therapy panel
RLT Home Total Spectrum ELITE, 65 x 20.5 inches, 864 LEDs. Funnel only. Not crowned on this page.

The RLT Home Total Spectrum line publishes seven-band LED percentages, including 1064 nm share, and ships a stand in the SKU (motorized electric on RLT Home Total Spectrum ULTRA and ELITE). That is a different shopping problem than “which 36-inch panel between Apex and BioMax.” It is listed here so a reader who has already decided this pairing is too short, too modular, or too thin on published 1060/1064 nm density has a live next click. It is not a hidden overall winner for this article.

Both brands have a live head-to-head against the RLT Home Total Spectrum line: PlatinumLED vs RLT Home and iRestore vs RLT Home. For each brand on its own, read the iRestore red light therapy review and the PlatinumLED red light therapy review.

If PlatinumLED is the pull, PlatinumLED vs Mito, PlatinumLED vs Joovv, PlatinumLED vs Vital, PlatinumLED vs BON CHARGE, BlockBlueLight vs PlatinumLED, Rouge vs PlatinumLED, Hooga vs PlatinumLED, Helio Cure vs PlatinumLED, and Infraredi vs PlatinumLED score the BioMax line against other brands.

The verdict: dual winner, genuine niches

🏆 Dual winner · iRestore Apex

For 10-year warranty and eight listed bands

Buy Apex when the non-negotiables are a 10-year term on the panel, 590/940/1060 nm on the named list, a 30-degree beam, a door mount in the box, no restocking on an Apex return, and (on Elite 2160) individual wavelength control. Keep the FDA split honest: the helmet is cleared, the panel is registered / 510(k)-exempt.

🏆 Dual winner · PlatinumLED BioMax

For LTI data, 90-degree flood, and the Classic/Pro ladder

Buy BioMax when the non-negotiables are a named independent spectrometer, 90-degree flood coverage, a published 7-band mix that includes 1060 nm, and a price ladder from Pro Nano $799 (or Classic 300 $659) through Pro Ultra $1,599. Trustpilot 4.1 from 133 is the stronger score in this pairing.

There is no single overall crown that fits every buyer in this pairing, and there is no RLT Home auto-win on a page that was written to compare these two. The 36 x 12-inch, 300-LED match (Apex Pro 1500 versus BioMax 900, both $1,299) is the cleanest apples-to-apples line. Warranty, restocking, and extra named bands pull that line toward Apex. Spectrometer data, 90-degree optics, and the rest of the ladder pull the broader catalog toward PlatinumLED. That is a dual trophy, not a coin flip.

If a reader still wants one name for “most panel buyers” inside this pair, PlatinumLED is the broader catalog: more sizes, a public LTI trail, 90-degree flood, and a lower 432-LED sticker. iRestore remains the genuine runner-up niche, and on several ownership rows it is not a runner-up at all. Dual trophy is the honest badge. A forced single crown would hide the 10-year term or hide the spectrometer gap. This page does neither.

Frequently asked questions

Is the iRestore Apex panel FDA-cleared?

No. Apex panels are FDA-registered / 510(k)-exempt. They are not FDA-cleared. iRestore’s homepage “FDA-Cleared” language refers to the hair-growth laser helmets, a different product. PlatinumLED BioMax panels are also FDA-registered, not cleared. Home LED panels in this pairing share the same listing style.

Does iRestore’s >200 mW/cm² beat PlatinumLED’s LTI numbers?

This page does not say that. iRestore’s figure is a brand number at about 6 inches from an unnamed instrument. Light Therapy Insiders measured BioMax 900 at peak 113 / average 90.3 mW/cm² and BioMax Pro Ultra at about peak 120 / average 101, with a spectrometer. Mixing those rows would pretend two different tools are one tool.

Which brand has the better warranty on a body panel?

iRestore, on Apex Pro 1500 and Apex Elite 2160, at 10 years. PlatinumLED is 3 years. Hair-helmet and mask warranties at iRestore are shorter and are not the Apex term.

Which brand has the better public Trustpilot score?

PlatinumLED, 4.1 / 5 from 133 reviews at platinumtherapylights.com, versus iRestore 3.6 / 5 from 1,092 reviews at irestorelaser.com, both pulled 1 September 2026. iRestore’s sample is larger and is mostly hair-device buyers. The row follows score plus adequate sample, not sample size alone.

Do I need two panels for full-body coverage?

Yes, on both catalogs, if full-body means head-to-toe in one stance. Each largest single panel is 36 inches tall. Apex Full Body bundles and PlatinumLED two-panel kits are the published answers. Extra panels add coverage area, not a higher dose on one spot.

Is there a discount code for iRestore or PlatinumLED on this page?

No. This page does not invent competitor codes. Code TOP10 is 6 percent off current RLT Home live prices only, and it is mentioned only in the funnel, not as an Apex or BioMax coupon.

Where is the live vs RLT Home page for each brand?

Both are live: PlatinumLED vs RLT Home and iRestore vs RLT Home.

Does red light therapy from either panel treat medical conditions?

This page is wellness information. Red light therapy may help with recovery, skin appearance, and temporary comfort for some users. Neither Apex nor BioMax is presented here as a cleared treatment for disease. Speak with a clinician if you are pregnant, photosensitive, or managing a serious condition.
